Abstract: In view of the influence of residential area openness on the capacity of surrounding roads, this paper constructs an index system to evaluate the influence of residential area openness on road access based on the “pressure-state-response”( PSR: Pressure-State-Response) model, and uses AHP ( Analytic Hierarchy Process) to determine the index weight, the comprehensive index method was introduced to evaluate the impact of residential area opening on road traffic. We choose class A and class B residential areas as the research object, and use VISSIM simulation software to simulate the road traffic and traffic conditions around the intersection of the two types of residential area. Simulation results show that the opening of class A residential area reduces the capacity of surrounding roads and the opening of class B residential areas improves the capacity of surrounding roads. The results of this study can provide theoretical reference for the traffic management departments to whether the district is fully open.

Key words: residential area open, pressure-state-response ( PSR) model, analytic hierarchy process, road traffic, VISSIM simulaiton
