Abstract: With the rapid development of remote sensing technology, it becomes promising for the estimation of regional evapotranspiration over heterogeneous land surface. Remote sensing based regional evapotranspiration study has also become an important subject. Based on the surface energy balance theory and in association of the real world data from the west of Jilin Province, the authors established a remote sensing model for estimating evapotranspiration for the study area. Furthermore the authors proved the validity of the remote sensing model using data measured on sites by weather observatories and stations. The model provides a new approach for studying ecoenvironmental problems in the west of Jilin Province.

Key words: remote sensing model, regional evapotranspiration, heterogeneous land surface, surface energy balance, the west of Jilin Province
