Calculation and prediction of critical elastic modulus of short fiberreinforced metal matrix composites

Based on the theoretical model for the elastic modulus of short fiberreinforced composite, the critical elastic modulus of short fiberreinforced metal matrix composites was proposed and an analytical expression for the relationship between the critical elastic modulus and the critical aspect ratio of the fiber and other material parameters was derived. The critical aspect ratio of the fiber is defined as the crosspoint of the tangent value of the inflexion and the asymptote of the maximum elastic modulus. The calculations reveale that the critical aspect ratio of the fiber increased with increasing the elastic modulus of the fiber and decreased with increasing the elastic modulus of the matrix and the volume fraction of the fiber.

The influences of ironriched phases on the flank wear of HSS tools under the condition of drilling diecast aluminum alloy

The influence of ironriched phases in diecast AlSi9Cu3 alloy on the flank wear characteristics of highspeed steel(HSS) tools was investigated in the present work under the drilling condition without lubrication. The results show that ironriched phase mainly existed in the shape of fine polygon, Fe content less than 0.6wt%, flank wear mainly exhibited severe plastic deformation wear. Ironriched phases were mainly composed of αphase and polygonal phase, Fe content within 0.6 to 0.8wt%, the main wear mechanism transformed to adhesive wear and abrasive wear, decreasing in flank wear. αphase and polygonal phase were distinctly increased beside βphase of Al5FeSi, Fe content more than 0.8, the main wear mechanism was abrasive wear, increasing in flank wear. The investigation reveals that the coexistence of adhesive wear and abrasive wear is the reasonable wear mechanism for drilling diecast AlSi9Cu3 alloy.

A new type of polymer nanoemulsion was synthesized by molecular selfassembly technique. The emulsion particle size observed by TEM is less than 100 nm. The dry film properties were studied by FTIR and DSC. The results of these measurements support the idea that polyacrylate molecular segments assemble with polyester segments. Then based on the polymer nanoemulsion, waterborne block type exterior architectural nanopaints were prepared. The waterborne coatings show good waterresistance, physicsmechanical properties and decorative and protective performance. Scrub resistance is improved greatly as high as 5000 times.

A threedimensional mathematical model of the resin transfer molding(RTM) filling process for the automobile bumper was presented. Base on this model, finite element /control volume method (FE/CVM) was used to simulate the filling process in RTM, and the resin flow in the mold was described. The molding process conditions were optimized. Using the following parameters: the injection pressure at the earlier stage less than 0.4 MPa, and that at the later stage 0.6—0.8 MPa, the resin viscosity about 0.15 Pa·s, the void defects were reduced significantly.

Improvement of blank shape prediction precision of deep drawing stamping part by thickness threshold value method

The thickness threshold value method proposed for the first time by the authors was applied to the algorithm of the blank shape prediction based on the converse finite element method to improve the blank shape prediction precision of the deep drawing stamping part. A vehicle engine oil pan as a typical deep drawing stamping part was taken as an example and its blank shape was predicted by the algorithms before and after the modification. The comparison between the predicted and the actual blank shape validated the proposed algorithm.

The suspension damping control strategy for vehicle attitude control system is presented. A softwareintheloop simulator was introduced to debug the algorithm, and the simulation of the algorithm under typical conditions was made using the simulator. The results show that the vehicle attitude control algorithm can effectively restrain the yaw, slip and roll during the swerve maneuver, the pitch during braking, and the dynamic suspension deflection and dynamic wheel load at high speed, so as to improve the handling and ride comfort performance .

An antislip/antiskid control algorithm for a 4×2 vehicles under the driving/braking conditions was suggested. The combined control consisting of the engine torque control and driving wheel brake control was adopted for the antislip control during driving,while the brake control based on threshold was adopted for the antiskid control during braking. The control algorithm prototype was built in the environment of Matlab/Simulink,and a hardwareintheloop platform was established. Using the platform, the control algorithm prototype was verified by testing. The results show that the algorithm can restrict the excessive slip or skid effectively and improve the traction performance,the brake ability and the steering stability of vehicles.

Dynamic equations of a 3 degreeoffreedom model for the multiaxle steering system of the truckhowitzer including the vehicle body sidesway characteristic was derived, a dimension reduction observer for rebuilding the vehicle state was constructed, and a vehicle steering controller based on the optimal tracking strategy was designed. The analysis results showed that the instantaneous oversteering or understeering of the vehicle can be reduced by the control of the rearwheel steering angle to enhance the dynamic steering stability. The constructed dimension reduction observer can estimate the vehicle state parameters depicting its steering performance in good agreement with the actual ones.

The interior noise samples in the assistant driver ear's position from four types of cars at different gears and velocities were selected as the evaluation objects. The subjective evaluation test of sound quality was carried out with the magnitude estimation and the paired comparison. Several primary objective psychoacoustical parameters of these samples were calculated. By way of linear correlation and the multidimensional regression analysis, an equation between the subjective evaluation level and the objective psychoacoustical parameters was gained. The research results indicate that the vehicle interior sound quality preference under the steady operation conditions is affected by two psychoacoustical parameters: loudness and sharpness.

The cold start tests were performed comparatively for the liquid petroleum gas (LPG) and gasoline engines at the ambient temperatures of 9,15 and 20 ℃ respectively. The results showed that the fuelair mixture suitable for the LPG engine start is leaner than that of the gasoline engine. The first fuel injection pulse width for the start of the gasoline engine is about 6.9 times of that at the normal idle condition, while it needs only 2.5 times for the LPG engine. Because of the lower volumetric efficiency, the initial throttle openings for the start and idling of the LPG engine are larger than those of the gasoline engine. Generally speaking, the start behavior of the LPG engine is better than that of the gasoline engine.

The effects of converter position,ignition timing and idle speed on catalytic converter lightoff behavior were studied on an electronically controlled LPG injection engine.Experimental results show that the position of the converter nearer to the exhaust port, the retard ignition timing and the higher idle speed can promote the catalytic converter lightoff.

To improve the transmission ratio discontinuity problem during the gear shift process in the hydromechanical transmission of the construction vehicles, a new scheme of threestage with geometric ratios hydrostaticmechanical compound transmission was suggested and its speed characteristics, power and fuel economy performance were analyzed. The comparative evaluation between the hydrostaticmechanical compound transmission and the hydromchanical transmission showed that the power and fuel economy performances are in favor of the former. The matching of the engine torque to the dynamic load can be realized by automatic adjusting the obliquity of the variable pump in the transmission system, resulting in the smooth and gentle power characteristic curves. The suggested design has the important significance in the improvement of the construction vehicle transmission system.

The conventional brake dynamometer was the mechanical inertia.The kinetic energy stored in flywheels is used to load on the tested brake,so the mechanical structure of the dynamometer is complicated with large sizes.Using the electric analogy of the inertia is a good approach to overconme the shortcomings of the mechanical inertia.The design method of the brake dynamometer with the electric analogy or electromechanical hybird analogy of the inertia was presented .

Based on the empirical fuzzy messages provided by the users and the maintenance technicians, using the fuzzy fault tree theory, the fault tree of the principal axis of the numerical control(NC) lathe was analyzed quantitatively, and the fault probability interval valuers of the principal axis under different confidence levels were calculated, providing a basis for the reliability design of the principal axis and the improvemcnt of the reliability level of the NC latlic.

Based on the failure data of a computer numerical control(CNC) system, its failure modes and their effects were analyzed by the failure mode, effect and criticality analysis(FMECA) method. The criticalities of main subsystems were calculated and the results showed that the main board and the feed drive are the weak parts of the CNC system. The effective reliability enhancement measares have been put forward.

Using the loading method by the weight rearrangement in the dead weight force standard machine may lead to reducing the weight quantity, broadening the measure range, and minimizing the machine size. However, the weight rearrangement process should not result in the precision deterioration during machine calibration and force measurement. It is requested that the force fluctuation during the weight rearrangement process should not be too strong. The mechanical principle of the weight rearrangement during the loading process in the studied machine was analyzed and the results show that the force value control precision and speed depend upon the control performance of the actuator of the machine. Based on these results a control model was established and the weight rearrangement experiment was performed. The results show that the theoretical analysis of the weight rearrangement process and its control model are correct and effective, leading to the force value fluctuation during weight rearrangement less than 2%.

A piezoelectric powergeneration device and the corresponding circuit for energy transformation and storage were designed and fabricated through the study on the mechanoelectric energy transformation of the piezoelectric ceramics and their electricity storage characteristic. Based on this, a novel wireless electropult using the piezoelectric selfpowersupply was developed and its tests were performed. The developed wireless electropult is characterized by the strucutre simplicity, miniaturization and integration, easy to fabricate, without thermal load, environment pollution and electromagnetic interference. It provides a new option for the power supply in a variety of portable miniature electronic facilities, passive sensors, and monitoring systems.

A new type of inertial actuator driven by the piezoelectric bimorph was proposed. The actuator was able to realize the directional linear movement due to the orderly changing the friction controlled by the pressure between the movement mechanism and the support surface. The working principle of the actuator was analyzed and the dynamic characteristic of the piezoelectric bimorph was studied by the FEM modal analysis. The prototype of the actuator was developed and its performance was tested. The results showed that the actuator is able to realize the reciprocating linear movement and work with the minimum stable step of 0.7 μm,the maximum moving velocity of 1.2 mm/s, and the maximum loading capacity of 150 g at frequency of 10 Hz.

The surface of a body in ultrasonic vibration shows an antifriction behavior.This phenomenon was investigated from the view points of the particle microcosmic vibration and the acoustic levitation.The ultrasonic vibration changes the friction status between the contact surfaces,and decreases the factual contact area.The vibration force and the acoustic radiation pressure decreases the pressure between the contact surfaces.The relationships between the vibration parameters and the friction behavior were measured with selfdeveloped facilities and the measured results show that the friction factor under vibration amplitude 5 μm is reduced to 10% of that without vibration.

A vision control system for the cell injection device based on the numeric image processing technology was proposed. The system adopts a closedloop vision control method based on the combination of the artificially mutual control and the automatic orientation by computer. The position informations of the cell and the injector needlepoint were recognized by a CCD numeric image collection system, and the dynamic automatic orientation of the distance between the cell and the needlepoint and its feedback control were carried out. The results show that the proposed control system improves the precision level of the cell injection, and achieves the precision of 0.05 μm, providing a solution of the problems in the existing cell injcetion process, such as the tedious manual operation, the poor orientation precision, and the lowlevel automation,etc.

The hydrophobic surfaces were divided into four kinds by analysing the hydrophobic characteristic of the nonsmooth surfaces of plants: superhydrophilic,midhydrophilic,midhydrophobic and superhydrophobic. In the view of energy balance, the energy transfer of the superhydrophilic and the superhydrophobic surfaces conform to Cassie model, and the energy transfer of the midhydrophilic and midhydrophobic surfaces conform to Wenzel model . Four typical nonsmooth surface prototypes were selected from many kinds of hydrophobic surfaces of plants, and the mathematical models for four kinds of ideal reticular hydrophobic surfaces (convex hull style, pit style, taper style , pillar style ) were established respectively, which will provide the theoretic base for the design and manufacture of the hydrophobic surface in antiadhesion of the engineering bionics.

The numerical simulation of the fully developed turbulent flow over the triangle bionic nonsmooth surface were performed by the finite volume analysis to reveal the mechanism of drag effect by the riblets. In the nearwall region the BL model and outside the region the RSM model were used respectively. The velocities, the shear stresses and the turbulence statistics including vortices in the center of calculation domain Z=3 mm were analyzed. The calculation results showed that the drag is reduced by 5.2% for the riblets with the apex space s+≈20 and the apex height h+≈17.3 and increased by 12.3% for those with s+≈40 and h+≈34.6, which were in good agreement with the data obtained in the wind tunnel and oil sump. The mechanism of the drag reduction and increase were discussed based on the turbulent flow calculation results.

A reinforcement learning algorithm based on the idea of partition layer was proposed that decomposing the complicated problem into a series of simple portions to be learned independently. The structures, parameters and functions of every level were designed. This learning algorithm could reduce the status space and predigest the design of reinforcement functions so as to improve the learning speed and the veracity of learning results. Also, it could realize the accuracy of the learning process step by step. Finally, the method was used for adaptive action fusion of mobile robot in an "obstacle avoidance" task by decomposing it into avoiding static and dynamic obstacle and closing to object actions. And its efficiency was shown by simulation results.

To increase the performance of "Forage" mission, the concept of "Foraging possibility" was introduced according to the foraging behavior of ants. The robots decide to leave the home or not according to the "Foraging possibility", and adjust the number of foraging robots by changing their "Foraging possibility". To find the influence between the "Foraging possibility" and system overall performance in the "Forage" mission, its relationship was modeled by the Eulerian mathematical modeling method, and the influence was analyzed by the simulation experiments. The experiment results show that the performance increase the number of foraging robot and the interference between robots, and decrease the overall performance instead. The relationship between "Foraging possibility", the number of missions and the number of robots was concluded by analyzing the results of the experiments.

Since inter layer separation and unit cell aligning errors in double layer frequency selective surface has direct effect on the electromagnetic wave transmission, the unit cell aligning error models were established by using finite element and periodic moment method and according to experimental experience in order to analyze frequency transmission performance for double layer ring unit cell FSS. The data analysis shows that unit cell aligning error causes increase of insert attenuation in the electromagnetic wave transmission and the phase delay. And this error also makes 1.33°insert phase change when E0/Dx=50%.

An improved blind multiuser detection algorithm combining subspace decomposition method and fast Kalman filter was proposed. Both theory and computer simulation results show that the improved scheme possesses lower computation complexity and fast convergence performance with robustness in the presence of multipath fading channel.

Because the H, Cb, Cr components of the HSI and YCbCr color spaces do not depend upon the light intensity of the image, the RGB color space of the plant disease images was transformed to the HSI and YCbCr color spaces to restrain the noise in the image. A 3layer BP artificial neural network was set up to segment the color images about the plant diseases. The characteristic values of the H, Cb, Cr components were selected as the input of the network. After the successful training of the network, 265 plant disease images were segmented and 251 images were done correctly, the correctness rate was 94.7%, satisfying the request from the preparation for diagnosing the plant diseases.

Based on the deep analysis of the theory of the thinking and intelligence studies,the concept of the thinking computation was presented for the first time, and its definition, main research contents,research approaches, and application areas were given. On the basis of the multidiscipline intercross integration of the cognition science, the encephalic science, and the neuroscience, and etc., in combination with the methology and the approach of the artificial intelligence study, putting the emphases on the studies of the imagery, the creativity, and the indefiniteness of the thinking, using the parallel model involving the logic thinking and the image thinking, the thinking computation studies the complex mechanism of the logic inference and the image inference to realize the high level hominine machine intelligence.

A new RSAbased undeniable signature scheme was proposed which is more efficient because of its 3move confirmation and disavowal protocols. The scheme is convertable and can be converted into the conventional RSA digital signature scheme. The scheme was proved secure against the active and concurrent attacks in the random oracle model. The existential unforgeability of the proposed scheme is equivalent to the computational DiffieHellman problem and its witness indistinguishableness is equivalent to the decisional DiffieHellman problem. Its antiimpersonation ability is equivalent to the discrete logarithm problem.

Division approach of traffic control work zone

In the field of the intersection coordinated control in the large area, the cycle work zone and the phase offset/signal split work zone were defined on the basis of the road traffic flow characteristic analysis, and a dynamic division approach of the traffic control work zone was presented in detail. The simulation was performed by means of the software Vissim. The results show that, compared with the traditional control work zone division approach, applying the suggested approach leads to the enhancement of the road traffic flow efficiency.

Synergy of traffic signal control and route guidance

Based on the summarization of the existing synergy models of the traffic signal control and the route guidance, the impacts of the road section travel time function and the traffic signal control strategy on the solution uniqueness and convergence of the synergy model were analyzed. A multiagent simulation system was established for the synergy study of the traffic signal control and the route guidance. The system is consisted of a road intersection control agent, a route guidance agent and an information processing agent, being characterized by the flexibility and expansibility. In the simulation system, the route guidance strategy is the useroptimizing strategy, the traffic flow dynamics is described by the cell transmission model, and the traffic signal plan is optimized by the cellbased traffic control model. The simulation results are encouraging and the synergy of the traffic signal control and the route guidance leads to saving in the total travel time up to 41.4%.

Optimal vehicle routing problem based on fuzzy clustering analysis

The demand points for physical distribution were classified by the fuzzy clustering analysis, and a mathematical model for the vehicle routing problem was established. An improved hybrid genetic algorithm integrating the standard genetic algorithm and the climbup algorithm was constructed. The trial calculation results show that vehicle routing problem for logistics alliance model can be solved efficiently by the improved hybrid algorithm through the classification of the demand points.

The mechanism of the road snowdrift deposit was explained based on the hydromechanical theory, the field observations, the wind tunnel experiments and the numerical simulations. From the mechansim, a quantitative study on the road snowdrift deposit depth was performed and a mathematical model was established as well as its parameters calibration and solution approach.

The purpose of this paper was aimed to provide a method for computing the general intensity factors of piezoelectric materials with a centric crack subjected to general mechanical electric loading. The theoretic solution of displacement fields of piezoelectric materials was used to construct a general displacement model with a centric crack. A singular element to compute general intensity factors of crack problems of piezoelectric materials was proposed. The general intensity factor can be solved directly with the present method without any postprocessing. The effects of different structural sizes and electric displacements on the solution are discussed. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the validity of the present method.

On the basis of investigation on 17 carcass parameters of 69 crossbred Jilin swine, 11 principal factors influencing the carcass cutability were found by the correlation analysis. Three principal component variables such as complex factor, loin eye area factor and carcass quality factor were chosen out by means of principal component analysis and a multiple linear regression analysis model for the cutability of crossbred Jilin swine was developed. The cutabilities of 30 crossbred Jilin swine were estimated by the model. The experiment results show that the mean error was only 3.41%, the residual standard deviation(RSD) was 0.061. The estimate method can be used in the pork production, which is especially suitable to the cutability estimation of the twowaycrossbred Jilin swine.
