Abstract:

Abstract:The heat transfer, the temperature change, the ice melting rate, the rheology of melted slurry water, as well as the effects of the heat load and the ice layer thickness in cold environment were investigated using the controllable carbon fiber to heat a slab to simulate the road pavement and melt the ice on it. The heat melting characteristics of the ice layer were studied through measuring the ice melting rate, the temperature histories of the slab layer and the ice layer. It was found that in the heat melting process of the ice layer, the ice melting rate history undergoes 3 stages:unmelting stage, accelerating melting stage, and decelerating melting stage, they are affected obviously by the heat load. The energy utilization effect in the ice melting process may be improved using variable heating. The ice layer thickness affects significantly the temperature of the roadbed layer:the thicker the ice layer, the lower the roadbed layer temperature. The temperature of the roadbed layer can be increased to guarantee the road pavement temperature by raising the heat load. The flowing of the slurry water brings about the temperature fluctuation of the roadbed layer and the road pavement layer.

Key words: thermal energy engineering, underground heat utilization, road pavement icesnow melting, heat melting characteristic, temperature change law
