Method for optimizing initial weights of ANNs by GAs

Abstract: It is known that the genetic algorithms (GAs) are good in global searching,and the artificial neural networks (ANNs) are effective on accurate local searching.We proposed a method to join the genetic algorithm and BP alogorithm together and supplementing mutually by optimizing the initial weights of ANNs with GAs.Some applications have already obtained in study of enhancing the intelligent forecasting precision of flood,especially the precision of flood peak forecasting,by using this method.Through the check for the historic datum of the flood forecasting system for Zhujiang rive catchment,the effectiveness and reliability of this method have been proved.
