Estimation of probability of blind zone of vehicle rearview mirror based on eyellipse

Abstract:

Estimation of blind zone of rearview mirror of most driver is one important element for design and development of BSD system or SWA system. Most present methods estimate the blind zone of drivers according to single eye position, which cannot reflect the blind zone of rearview mirror that is influenced by dynamic position of driver' eye and different eye position between drivers. A method of simulation of drivers' view from rearview mirror is proposed. Based on it, an eyellipse is used to locate drivers' eye position in order to estimate the probability of view of rearview mirror of most driver. Finally, the probability of blind zone is estimated. The proposed method provides a more accurate simulation on driver's blind zone, and present the differences between blind zone of different drivers.
