Abstract: The strategy for oilwell site preliminary survey with one rover Global Positioning System (GPS) is proposed by means of orientation technology of global positioning system and data communication technology. The oilwell site preliminary survey and management subsystem was constructed so as to solve the inconvenience caused by using the third party software provided with the functions of GPS data acquisition and processing. The experimentalresults demonstrate that when the strategy is put into practice, the subsystem can not only obtain position, velocity and time data from GPS constantly, but also solve the problem above mentioned and improve the flexibility and agility of oilwell site survey. The difference between the surveyed site and the true site is less than 5 meters. The feasible technology support will be provided for oilwell site survey anddeployment.

Key words: global positioning system, oilwell location survey, position, velocity and time data, coordinate conversions and transformation
