Realization of Absorbing Boundary Condition with Lossy Media for Ground Penetrating Radar Simulation

Abstract: Maxwell’s equations can be discretized by finite difference time domain(FDTD) to simulate ground penetrating radar(GPR). Perfectly matched layer(PML) as an absorbing boundary condition can absorb the outgoing wave effectively. As for lossy media modified Maxwell’s equations under stretched coordinates are adapted. If the stretched variables can satisfy certain conditions, the equations can also absorb the outgoing waves similarly. This absorbing boundary condition is called generalize perfectly matched layer (GPML).
