Abstract: The method on biomarker study of fossil plant cuticles is briefly introduced. Using the Soxhlet and ultrasound extraction methods, and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analyses, the author made extractions of dissolved organic matter in cuticles of Miocene plants from the Badaogou of Changbai Mountain area of Jilin, China and Schcrozburg of Germany. The results show that there are n-alkanes,isoprenoid alkenes, terpenes and stericles in the organics. It is necessary to pay attention to lithofacies, lithologic characters and avoiding pollution in sampling and processing for the biomarker research on the cuticles.

Key words: plant fossil, cuticles, biomarkers
