Active control of photostrictive laminated thin paraboloidal shell

Abstract:

Paraboloidal shell was controlled by photostrictive actuator, which can provide contactless actuation. By controlling the on-off switch of the exciting light source, the expansion and contraction actuation of the photostrictive actuator can be achieved. Based the membrance approximation, a set of mode shape functions for paraboloidal shell satisfying free boundary conditions were proposed. The governing equations of paraboloidal shell laminated with paired photostrictive actuators were established. The active control strategy was determined by combining the illumination method and Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) approach. The time histories of the transverse displacement and control force were simulated and evaluated. Simulation results show that photostrictive actuator can effectively suppress the vibration of the paraboloidal shell.
