Effect of variable damping of ER fluid on system vibration

Abstract: An equivalent linear damping for ER fluid's nonlinear damping was made by means of equivalent linearization,and the influence of variable damping of ER fluid on system vibration properties were analysed.The nonlinear equation of the vibrtion response of ER damper has been calculated.The results show that ER fluid could obviously reduce the vibration amplitudes of system.The damping of the system can be controled by controling the intensity of electric field.With the increase of intensity of electric field,the frequency peak value increases and the peak value of resonance decreases.
