Modeling and substituting of generating lines of cutting hypoid gears by generating-line method

Abstract:

The geometrical relationship,which was used to manufacture hypoid gears by generating-line method,between two generating lines of pinion and gear was studied,and the mathematical model of generating lines was established.In order to simplify the movement of machine tool,the method of substituting simple curves for complex theoretical generating lines was proposed.Finally,taking a pair of hypoid gears,which the designing parameters were given and the gear generating line was straight,for example,the theoretical generating lines of left side and right side of pinion were solved and were substituted respectively by a circular arc and a straight line.The impact of substituting error on the gear drive and the measures of reducing this impact were analyzed,and it showed the feasibility of cutting hypoid gears by the substituted generating lines.
