Cellular automaton traffic flow model considering on-street parking

Abstract: To analyze the effect of the in-street parking on the street traffic flow, the corresponding cellular automaton behavior rules were established for the vehicle behavior under the condition of in-street parking. Using these rules the traffic flow evolution under different parameters was simulated numerically, and the traffic flow phase transition characteristic was analyzed. It turned out that on the 2-direction and 2-lane street section with in-street parking, the larger probability of the vehicle changing lane to the opposite direction lane leads to the possibility of traffic flow blocking even at lower traffic flow density. The larger traffic flow density raises the traffic flow blocking probability. The larger probability of vehicle ready to stop reduces the average traffic speed, but may not necessarily raise the traffic blocking probability.
