An improved filtering algorithm for H.264 fractional-pel interpolation

Abstract:

In order to reduce computational complexity and memory access store of H.264 fractional-pel interpolation,an improved filtering algorithm for fractional-pel interpolation was proposed, in which the filter coefficients are variable and the sum of all the coefficients is unchanged.Based on the fractional pixel interpolation algorithm for motion compensation in current video coding standard H.264,it determined filtering coefficients according to the variation of the motion vector.Compared to the algorithm in H.264,18% spatial complexity was reduced,computation complexity was about the same.The experimental results show that the PSNR is increased and the Bit-rate is decreased by the improved filtering algorithm and show the coding efficiency is enhanced.
