Research on Release Characteristics of the Separate Dual Left-Turn Lanes

Abstract: The release characteristic of the separate dual left-turn lanes was researched on the signalized intersection. Lane usage characteristics and saturation flow rate characteristics were analyzed by probability theory and mathematical statistics. Using video image processing technology, the space and space-time travel characteristics of separate left-turn vehicles were described and analyzed within the intersection. There was interference between the two flows that traveling within the intersection. In this paper, the result provided a theoretical basis for the separate dual left-turn lanes and optimizing signal-timing.
