Analysis and numerical calculation of slurry waterhammer transient process on ashtransportation pipeline in thermal power plant

Abstract: The hydraulic ash transportation gaius increasingly wide application in thermal power plant. On the basis of the fundamental equations of the sturry waterhammer transient process, a mathematical model for the process of the pseudohomogeneous airentrained slurry waterhanvmer at the pump stopping was proposed using the characteristic line method. The transcent processes of the relative water pump outlet pressure, the dimensionless pump flow rate, the dimensionless pump rotational speed, the relative pressure head at the highest point of the pipeline were calculated by the model for the compound ash transportation pipeline in a certain thermal power plant. Based on the numerical calculation and the analysis of the calculated results, a solution to alleviate the harm of the slurry waterhammer in the pipeline was proposed, i.e.,installing a surge tank at the highest point of the pipeline and increasing the moment of inertia of the water pump motor.
