Computational experiments of evaluating road network traffic conditions based on artificial transportation systems

Abstract:

Given urban land use and road networks, computational experiments of evaluating road network traffic conditions were studied based on Artificial Transportation Systems (ATS). Components of ATS and the function of each component were introduced. An example was given to illustrate how to evaluate road network traffic conditions based on ATS. The percentage of congestion roads in the road network and the maximum number of vehicles existing in the road network during the rush hour were used to reflect road network traffic conditions. The computational experiment results can provide decision support to traffic management sectors.
