Abstract: Pb and Cd adsorption on amorphous Fe and Mn oxides synthesized in laboratory were measured under controlled laboratory conditions. The thermodynamic characteristics of Pb and Cd adsorption on these Fe and Mn oxides were compared to those of the oxides in natural surface coatings. For the amorphous Fe oxides formed in this study, there is no significant difference between the characteristics of Pb adsorption on these oxides and on Fe oxides in the surface coatings, while the synthetic Mn oxide could be used as the surrogates for Mn oxides in natural surface coatings to predict the adsorption of Cd well.
