Abstract: We measured Raman spectra of meso-substituted tetraphenylporphyrin derivatives and analyzed the influences of donating and withdrawing substituting groups on the vibration of porphine skeletal modes. Compared with those of tetraphenylporphyrin, the frequency of stretching vibrations of (C_a—C_m) and (C_b—C_b)blue-shifted to high wave number when donating electron group was introduced (amino group), while it red-shifted to low wave number when withdrawing electron group was introduced (nitro group).
