Abstract:

With 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec7ene (DBU) as catalyst, tetratertbutyl-2,3-naphthalocyaninanickel (TBNPcNi) was synthesized by means of liquid synthesis method. A frequencydoubled Q switched Nd ∶[KG-*3]YAG laser system with ns/ps laser pulse was used for studying nonlinear and optical limiting properties of the synthesized compound at a wavelength of 532 nm. The
nonlinear refracting index, n2 and thirdorder nonlinear polarizability, χ(3) were 2.07×10-11  and 7.57×10-12 , respectively, which are obviously higher than the values of metallic phthalocyanine. The compound shows excellent nonlinear optical limiting performance. When the visible light transmittance is 72%, the limiting threshold value is 1 722 mJ/cm2, the clamp value is 700 mJ/cm2, the ratio of absorption sectional areas of effective excited state and ground state is 4.48.

Key words: thirdorder nonlinearity, optical limiting, naphthalocyanine
