Abstract: The NMR spectra are reported for troglitazone (5-[[4-[(6-hydroxy-2 ,5 ,7 ,8-tetramethyl-3 ,4-dihydrobenzopyran-2-yl-) methoxy ] pheny1 ] methy1] 2,4-thiazolidinedione) that is used as an oral hypoglycemic drug. By using DEPT , 1H-1H COSY , 13C-1H HETCOSY and 13C-1H LC-HETCOSY techniques along with IR , UV and MS , the proton and 13C spectra of troglitazone are assigned completely. This result also provides a basis analysis for the NMR characterization of the similar new drugs.
