Abstract:

Raman scattering of stimulated  water was studied under the stimulation  of Nd∶YAG laser at wavelength 532 nm.  The Raman threshold of water is similar to that of methanol or alcohol, but is larger than that of benzene, toluene or carbon bisulfide.  At an excitation laser energy of 140 mJ,              3 426 cm-1 stimulated Stokes and anti\|Stokes lines were found in the forward Raman scattering, the stimulated Stokes lines 3 400,3 268 cm-1  can be found in the backward and  sideward Raman scattering.  Owing  to low Kerr constant, the threshold of the stimulated Raman of water is pretty high. The difference between the forward and backward, sideward stimulated Raman scattering of water is explained by laser induced plasma.
