Unequal error protection for progressive image transmission

Abstract:

The necessary condition for the optimal Unequal Error Protection (UEP) of progressive image was analyzed. The conclusion that the importance of bitstream after UEP with optimal allocation is monotonously decreasing was proved and the range of the expected distortion of the reconstructing image at the decoder was given. Result of this study can provide important reference for the design of progressive image transformation system.
