Numerical simulation of pulsed laser processing conrod fracture splitting notch

Abstract:

A three dimensional transient temperature field model was built for the YAG pulsed laser processing the conrod fracture splitting notch by the finite element method. The form of heat load, the laser defocus amount, the thermophysical parameters of the workpiece material, the element birth and death in the processing were discussed. The moving laser processing the splitting notch on C70S6 high carbon microalloy nonhardeningandtempering steel was simulated numerically, and the depth and the width of the notch as well as the temperature field were obtained under different pocessing parameters. The effects of the laser spot diameter, the laser power, the laser pulse width and the processing speed on the notch processing were summarized. The results of the simulation were compared with the experiment ones and the optimized parameters of the laser processing the conrod fracture splitting notch were proposed.
