Chromium-free pretreatment and Ni-P alloys technology on magnesium alloy

Abstract:

A chromiumfree solution pretreatment technology on AZ91D magnesium alloy substrate is investigated. Then, by selecting suitable complexing agent, subsequent Ni-P plating is conducted in a plating bath where nickel ions are provided by sulfate nickel. A uniform, compact and defect free plating layer is obtained by this technology, which exhibits good anticorrosion properties compared with traditional pretreatment. The effect of the chromiumfree pretreatment of the magnesium alloy substrate on the electroless Ni-P plating was also investigated. The deposit was characterized by its structure, morphology, anticorrosion properties and microhardness.
