Diesel particulate filter active regeneration by in-cylinder late post injection

Abstract: An active diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration system was evaluated, which applies an in-cylinder late post injection (LPI) and a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) to increase exhaust gas temperature for DPF regeneration. The influence of LPI on the performance of diesel engine and temperature rise patterns of DOC were studied by the bench test. The results showed that, at medium and low load conditions (40% and 50% load), LPI produces higher level of unburned hydrocarbon (HC), which is mainly oxidized on DOC to raise exhaust gas temperature to initiate active DPF regeneration. The results should be of certain reference value for optimizing the matching of DOC and DPF, and provides basic information for developing DPF regeneration method and DPF regeneration control strategy.
