Effect of multi-injectionpiezo injector on particulate emission in gasoline direct injection engine

Abstract: To study the influence of spray strategies on particulate emission, the effect of multi-injection with piezo injector on particulate emission in Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine was studied using Engine Exhaust Particle Size Spectrometer (EEPSS). Experimental results show that, with single injection there are one peak of nucleation mode and two peaks of accumulation mode in particle size distribution. In contrast, with multi-injection, there are two peaks of nucleation mode and one peak of accumulation mode in particle size distribution. Compared with double injection, in triple injection, PN of accumulation mode decreases a lot, and two peaks of nucleation mode increase a bit. Compared with single injection, the total particle number can decrease a lot with appropriate double injection and triple injection, and PN of two modes is also lower. At the same time, double injection can make a big decrease in nucleation mode, while tripe injection results in a big decrease in accumulation mode. Also multi-injection reduces NOx emission.
