License plate recognition algorithm for passenger cars in Chinese residential areas

Abstract: The number of edge points, the length of license plate area and the number of each line of edge points are used for localization. Statistical character method combined with structure character method is applied to obtain the characters and character classifier is designed. Experiment shows that the vehicle license plate recognition system designed in this study realizes that the recognition accuracy rate is up to 92% in various environmental conditions.
