Oversaturated intersection traffic signal control method considering bus priority

Abstract: With the objective of improving the capacity and avoiding overflow for oversaturated intersections meanwhile considering bus priority, a method is proposed to determine the queue length threshold, detect the threshold and estimate the queue length. Then according to the traffic flow conflict and section space constraints, a method of dynamic phase combination is designed. From the traffic flow characteristic of oversaturated intersections the key parameters are defined, in which the weight of bus priority is considered. On the basis of the above work, the control method for oversaturated intersections is studied with gather-disperse theory and fuzzy control. Finally, an interconnected control method of traffic signals for oversaturated intersection is put forward. Simulation results show that the new method can not only restrain the overflow in oversaturated intersection, but also improve the average traffic flow and effectively reduce the average delay time at intersections.
