Numerical comparison of flow and heat transfer in detached cooling module for construction machinery

Abstract: A numerical simulation model for vehicular cooling modules was established and verified by experiment. On this basis, the numerical study of the vehicular detached cooling modules was carried out. First, the detached cooling modules with serial structure were set up, the influence of the position and number of air intakes on the cooling performance was investigated. Then, the detached cooling modules with non-serial structure were established, the influence of the relative position between Heat Exchangers (HEs) and fan was taken into account. The results show that, when the cooling modules were serially connected, the increase in air intakes has no obvious impact on the cooling performance. When the cooling modules were non-serially connected, the cooling performance is greatly improved. In addition, the cooling efficiency of the scheme with double HEs is higher than that with single HE.
