New generation method of pencil drawing using USM sharpening

Abstract: A new method for automatically generating pencil drawings from real 2D color images was proposed. First, the color image was sharpen by Unsharp Mask(USM), then color scaling was used to get an image with radial and edge details. Second, the line integral convolution (LIC) algorithm was used to get better effects of illumination and local texture of pencil drawing, and the image segment was applied to gain the significant areas. Finally, the satisfactory pencil drawings was gained by overlaying and transparentizing the edge details and the result of LIC. The experiment results show that the proposed method can generate effects closer to real pencil drawings, and it is a faster algorithm.
