Numerical simulation on the effect of punch element size on multipoint stretchforming results

Abstract:

A series of numerical simulations on the typical multipoint stretchforming(MPSF) processes were carried out, the surface quality and shape error of the MPSF parts were analyzed. The results showed that the smaller the size of the punch is, the better the surface quality will be. The shape error distributions on the MPSF parts with different materials are similar. The larger the curvature of the target shape is, the larger the shape error will be. With the decrease of the punch size, the shape error of the MPSF part decreases. When the size of the punch is relatively large, the shape error decreases sharply, but after the punch element size becomes smaller than a certain value, the shape error decreases more and more slowly.
