Abstract: methyl orange solution was treated by means of the UV-Fenton method. The results show that the concentrations of H2O2 and Fe2+ and pH value exhibit a great effect on the degradation of methyl orange. The decolorization ratio of methyl orange is determined by the concentration of H2O2, the rate of degradation is determined by t he concentration of Fe2+ and increases with the decrease of pH value. Also, the change of TOC of the methyl orange solution with the reaction time is discussed and the rate of degradation is faster than that of TOC removal.

Key words: UV-Fenton reagent, methyl orange, degradation, decolorization
