Abstract: Two series of sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone)s based on tert-butylhydroquione and o-methylhydroquione were synthesized via aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction. The polymers and their membranes were characterized by means of DSC, TGA, mechanics testing and other methods. The influences of different groups on solubility, thermal property, mechanical property and proton transmission of the polymers were studied.

Key words: sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone), proton exchange membrane, o-methyl, tert-butyl
