Abstract: Benzene ring and sulphur groups were introduced into a compound containing C=C double bonds to prepare a novel monomer Sphenylthiomethacrylate (PTMA), the structure of which was characterized by ¹H NMR, FTIR and HPLC. The new kinds of transparent polymeric resins were obtained through the copolymerization of PTMA and styrene. The copolymer resins possessed high refractive indexes with a good transparency. With the content of PTMA increasing, the refractive index of the copolymer resin was enhanced, and the impact resistance was improved.
