Abstract:

Abstract:Objective To investigate the significance of immunohistochemical method in differential diagnosis and definiting the origin of esophageal spindle cell tumors. Methods Eighteen cases of esophageal stromal turmors were studied by HE staning and immunohistochemistry to detect the expressions of CD117, CD34, SMA, Desmin and  S-100.Results In 18 cases of esophageal spindle cell tumors, the CD34, S-100, Desmin positive/negative expression rates were 4/14,0/18 and 12/6 , respectively.6 cases of esophageal spindle cell tumors were positive for CD117,among them  2 cases were local positive in membrane and 4 cases were positive in cytoplasm of spindle cells. 12 cases of esophageal spindle cell tumors were negative for CD117. 17 cases tumor cells were varying degrees diffusely and positive expression for SMA. Among 18 cases of esophageal spindle cell tumors, 12 cases were leiomyoma  and  6 cases were gastrointestinal stromal tumors. Conclusion Immunohistochemistry could accurately determine the biological behavior and prognosis of esophageal spindle cell tumors, it could provide direction for reasonable choice of molecular target therapy after operation.
