Abstract:

Abstract:Objective To explore the effects of 8-week exercise prescription intervention on aerobic capacity, body composition, blood lipid and C-reactive protein (CRP) and to provideevidence for guiding exercise prescription in obese adolescents. Methods Sixty male obese adolescents were randomly divided into control group (CG) and exercise group(EG). Both two groups participated in physical education lessons (twice per week, 40 min per session), but only EG participated in additional 2 sessions per week of 60-75 min per session (8 weeks) of exercise prescription intervention. The resting heart rate (RHR), blood pressure, maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), body composition, blood lipid and  CRP were determined before and after test. Results There were no significant differences in the indexes mentioned above between two groups before test. At the end of test, the RHR, systolic blood pressure and serum CRP were reduced (P<0.05 or P<0.01), while the VO2max and lean body mass (LBM) were elevated (P<0.05 or P<0.01) in EG compared with pre-value, but all the indexes in CG showed no significant change(all P>0.05). The RHR, systolic blood pressure and serum CRP were lower (all P<0.05), while VO2max and LBM were higher (all P<0.01) in EG than those in CG after test. Conclusion Eight weeks exercise prescription can effectively improve aerobic capacity, increase LBM and reduce cardiovascular diseases risk level in obese adolescents.
