Abstract: The 3D microtopography of Micro Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (MWEM) surface is characterized by isotropy. The methods of roundness and second order of principal section are introduced to describe the complexity degree of MWEDM surface texture more precisely and simplify the calculation `process. The Gaussian curvature is adopted instead of zenith curvature to characterize the concave convex character of the surface, which can make the calculation not being limited by the measuring direction and improve the calculation precision. The surface geometry elements are cut apart by watershed method to simplify the characterization parameters and realize accurate counting of the surface peaks. It shows that, for estimating the isotropy MWEDM surface, the improved structural parameters of 3D roughness are more simplified and the characterizations are more precise.
