Effect of load conditions on the performance of diesel engine under transient operation condition

Abstract: The performance of transient operating condition is different under different working conditions for turbocharged engine. The effects of different initial loads under constant engine speed, different engine speed with the same increasing torque process on engine combustion process and emissions were investigated on a turbocharged diesel engine. The results indicate that, compared with high idle increasing torque, initial load as partial load has improving effect on the responsiveness of air intake and combustion process at constant speed and the smoke opacity varies slightly. However, the change of NOx is significant, which is about 80% more than that of high idle initial load with constant speed and increasing torque. Results also show that for different speed conditions, compared with high constant speed in transient combustion process, the deterioration of smoke opacity is worse and the improvement of NOx emission is enhanced at low constant speed.
