Study on Laser Reactive Sintering of Fe-Al Powder Compacts

Abstract: Laser reactive sintering behavior,phase transformation,microstructure and microhardness characters of a Fe Al system powder compacts are investigated.The experimental results show that under the laser beam irradiation,the powder compacts exhibit combustion and propagation.Products of the consinting of compounds reacted from elements are obtained during the sintering pure elements.Al rich phases exist in grain boundary while a few are separated out in the inside grains.As the amount of Al in the alloy increases,more Al rich phases are formed on the grain bowndary and thus the hardness of the alloy increases.
