Abstract:

Three estimation models were built to improve the estimation accuracy of the average travel speed(ATS) on the congested arterial road segment based on the spot traffic parameters. The traffic flow characteristics of the signalized intersection of the arterial road and the relationship between the spot traffic parameters and the ATS were analyzed, and the average section speed measured by the loop detectors laid on the downstream sections was used as the basis of the model. These models were analyzed comparatively by the traffic simulations. The results show that the proposed fullstate ATS estimation model significantly outperforms the competitors, and the two substate ATS estimation models based on the modulus coefficient may improve the estimation accuracy under the congestion traffic condition.
