Power performance of a piezoelectric generator for tire pressure monitoring sensor

Abstract:

A piezoelectric power generator was proposed to supply realtime electric energy to the tire pressure monitoring sensor(TPMS). According to the structural feature of TPMS, a scheme was suggested in which the generator is fixed to the wheel hub and generates the electric energy using the vibration energy during the wheel rotation. The power performance of the generator under different installations of the cantilever beam piezoelectric vibrator was investigated experimentally. The results show that the installation of vibrator vertical to the wheel hub as well as to the wheel rolling direction is the best, it can avoid the impact of the centrifugal force, make use of the energy of the multidirectional vibrations in the plane of wheel. Thus installed generator with 4×45 mm×15 mm×0.2 mm  cantilever beam piezoelectric vibrators connected in parallel can satisfy the power demand by TPMS.
