H control for electric power steering road feel based on frequency shaping

Abstract:

To deal with the fact that there are uncertainties such as disturbance signals, sensor noises,etc., in the electric power steering(EPS) system, and the demand of the system to the robustness and the dynamic performance, a road feel model was built for the EPS system and an H controller was designed for the EPS road feel. The output performance of the system was shaped by selection of the frequency weighting function, and a simulation was performed in the frequency domain. The simulation results showed that compared with the traditional PID controller, the H controller for the EPS road feel can provide a better system robustness, the frequency weighted EPS can acquire better road informations at low frequencies, can attenuate the noises and disturbances from the road at high frequencies, thus insure the driver to get a better road feel.
