Finite element analysis of transmission error for hypoid gears considering installation error

Abstract: In order to investigate the influence of installation errors on the Transmission Error (TE) of hypoid gears, a finite element model was built and the TE was simulated in both static and dynamic steps. The results demonstrate that the static and dynamic TE curves of hypoid gear are in substantial agreement, except that oscillation exists in the dynamic TE curve during the initial engagement. When the gear rotational speed is stable, the two types of TE curves are the same. The higher the rotational speed, the longer the stability time required for dynamic TE. The installation errors would translate the TE curve integrally. The influences of the installation errors on the TE from large to small are in the order: the shaft angle error, the pinion axis error, the offset error and the ring axis error. The influences of the pinion axis error and the offset error are related to the directions of the installation errors.
