Analysis of aerodynamic noise and influence factors of a regenerative blower used in air supply system of fuel cell cars

Abstract:

The internal flow field and the far-field aerodynamic noise of a regenerative are calculated using a two-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) model, and the simulation results are analyzed. It is shown that, in the far-field noise spectrum of the blower, the frequency, which is 42 times of the blower rotation frequency, is related to the number of blades of the inlet/outlet and the radial clearance between the impeller and the partition of the casing. The far-field noise peak frequencies of the blower are different when the clearance is larger or smaller than 0.5 mm. The effects of impeller parameters, such as the blade angle, blade number, and the clearance between the impeller and the partition of the casing, on the far-field noise of the blower are analyzed using the range analysis. The influence order of these parameters is determined, and the radial clearance has maximum influence on blower noise.
