Superimposed pilot based channel estimation and equalization for
single carrier block transmission

Abstract: Since frequency domain equalization in single carrier block transmission system requires accurate channel state information, a superimposed sequence based frequency domain iterative channel estimation and equalization algorithm was proposed. The channel estimation error can be reduced by exploiting the knowledge of the pilot sequence and the detected data symbols. Theoretical results of the lower bound of the bit error rate as well as the channel estimation error of the proposed algorithm were given. In addition, a design criterion of optimum pilot sequence was presented. Simulation results show that the performance difference between the proposed method and the case that the channel state information was known at receiver is less than 1 dB
