Bending resistance of steel-concrete composite continuous beam

Abstract:

To analyze the bending resistance of the steel-concrete composite beam(CB) accurately, a new finite element stiffness equation of the CB in the structure under the vertical loads was derived based on the contact theory. The element considers the shear-slip effect between the shear connector parts located at the interface of the steel-concrete CB and simulates the displacement difference between the steel upper surface and the concrete lower surface by using two displacement modes in the interface. The calculated results were compared with the test results and good agreement showed the suggested method is reasonable and believable. Using the CB element, it is possible to calculate effectively the longitudinal distributions  of the bending deflection, the strain, and the sheer-slip strain difference in the interface of the CB under the vertical loads, to analyze the effect of the shear stud on the bending resistance of the CB. The suggested CB element can be extended to the calculation of the variable cross-section steel-concrete CB and the prestressed steel-concrete CB.
