Preparation, Characterization of Supported Phosphotungstic Acid Catalyst and Its Application to Transesterification |to Produce Biodiesel

Abstract:

The supported phosphotungstic acid catalysts were prepared by loading  phosphotungstic acid on the Wormlike mesporous carrier via the impregnation method. The supported catalysts and carrier were characterized by XRD, FTIR, N2 adsorptiondesorption and so on. The biodiesel was prepared by transesterification of castor oil and methanol with supported phosphotungstic acid as the catalyst. The conversion of transesterification was determined by the method of periodates oxidation. The effects of reaction parameters such as reaction temperature, time and n(methanol) ∶n(castor oil) on the transesterification were studied. At 55  ℃, the n(methanol) ∶[KG-*3]n(castor oil) of 6, reaction time of 2 h, phosphotungstic acid loading of 50%, the conversion rate of transesterification was up to 951%.
