Linear measurement of hippocampus and temporal horn of lateral
ventricle in healthy subjects with MRI and its significance

Abstract:

Abstract:Objective To provide the standard morphological parameter values of hippocampal through linear measurement of the hippocampus and the temporal horn of the lateral ventricle in healthy subjects.Methods The areas,heights,and widths of the hippocampus and the temporal horn of the lateral ventricle were measured in 3 standard planes on magnetic resonance images(MRI) in 105 healthy subjects,and the comparisons between left side and right sides and between various gender groups were performed.Results The difference of the areas of the hippocampus between the two sides of brain had no significance (P>0.05).However,the differences of width(right side>left side,P<0.01) and heights(left side>right side, P<0.01)  of the hippocampus between the two  sides were significant.There were no significant differences of the widths,heights and areas of temporal horn of the lateral ventricle between the two sides(P>0.05). The difference of the measurement values of the hippocampus and the temporal horn between the male and the female had no significance (P>0.05).Conclusion There are differences of the width and height of the hippocampus in standard planes between the two sides.The linear measurement standard values of the hippocampus and the temporal horn of the lateral ventricle obtained in standard planes will help the clinical diagnosis in related diseases.
