Survey on    smoking behavior of  medical staff in Jilin Province

Abstract: Objective To understand the situation of smoking and quitting smoking and influencing factors by investigating smoking and quitting smoking of m
edical staff in Jilin Province,and to  provid key points and scientific information for the smoking control.Methods  By stratified sampling methods,3787 med
ical workers in 50 medical institutions of 9 districts(Changchun,Yanbian,Liaoyuan,Baishan,Baicheng,Zhenlai,Dunhua,Jingyu,Dongliao ) in Jilin Province were selected to undergo a questionnaire survey.The investigators came from medical institutions,and they investigated objects one by one after  training.The q
uestionnaires included smoking,smoking cessation and demographic information.SPSS 13.0 software was adopt to deal with the data.The data was described by rate and proportion,and  different rates were compared using  Chi-squaretest.The smoking and quitting smoking status  of medical staff in Jilin Provinceand influencing factors were analyzed.Results The total smoking rate of the medical staff in Jilin Province was 15.45%,the smoking rate of male was 44.20%,and the female’ was 0.40%.In the smoking people,the smoking rate in group >40 years old was the highest (22.06%),the smoking rate of the people with high school/technical school education was the highest (19.69%),and the smoking rate of the people in  Center for Disease Prevention and Control was the highest(24.82%).Among smoking-medical staff,44.71% ever tried to quit smoking and 39.04% wanted to quit smoking.To protec
t oneself and families from the smoking damage was the main influence factor of  smoke abatement.Conclusion  The smoking rate of  medical staff in Jilin P
rovince is still higher.And the  medical staff should accept the health education of smoking control to promote understanding of the smoking damage.
